Global Health & Social Medicine (formerly known as the Department of Social Science, Health & Medicine) is a unique interdisciplinary department at King’s founded in 2012. GHSM is already ranked within the top 10 of sociology departments in the UK. Its mission is to address the changing landscape of health and medicine from social science perspectives. We explore the complex social determinants of health, illness and ageing, and the relationship between advances in biomedicine and biotechnology with social and medical practices.
The Department invites applications for one Lecturer/Senior Lecturer position. The postholder will be expected to contribute to teaching on our undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes. S/he will have a PhD in sociology or another relevant social science discipline, as well as relevant teaching experience and excellent communication skills. Candidates with a a PhD in Philosophy will be considered if they can demonstrate some relevant training in the social sciences. A postgraduate teaching and learning qualification in higher education would be an advantage.
For the Senior Lecturer post the Department is looking for a distinguished scholar who already has an international profile in the area of global health and/or social medicine.
Applicants for Senior Lecturer must have experience in supervising doctoral research students, a proven ability to initiate and/or lead research projects, together with a commitment to launch new ones; a record of research grant income is desirable.
This is a fixed term position for 12 months.
The selection process will include a presentation and a panel interview.
Interviews will be held on Thursday the 10th of August 2017 and Skype interviews will not be possible.
