Second Medical London Excursion

Time: 14:00-16:30 (including refreshment break)
Meeting point: Royal College of Physicians (RCP) in the lobby, 11 St Andrews Place, Regent’s Park, London, NW1 4LE
The Royal College of Physicians museum contains rich collections of medical history and practice, gathered over five centuries since being founded by Henry VIII. The RCP’s building has a fascinating architectural history too, often voted as one of the top modernist buildings in London.
Our tour will include the temporary exhibition ‘A cabinet of rarities’: the curious collections of Sir Thomas Browne.’ This exhibition ‘…explores RCP physician, philosopher, collector, and polymath Thomas Browne’s curious approach to the world through his writing and his collection. His collection reveals a fascinating perspective on 17th-century scientific and medical research.’
We will also get the chance to explore the RCP’s medicinal garden, which has been described as ‘the most interesting garden in London’, with over 1,300 plants used as medicines or which commemorate physicians.
