Warwick Inequalities and Social Justice Postgraduate Conference July 10th 2015: ‘Race, Gender & Class’

Where: University of Warwick

When: July 10, 2015

The purpose of this one day interdisciplinary conference is to promote collaboration among scholars, all postgraduate students and practitioners. The conference will be held under the auspices of the Centre of Social Justice and Inequalities, which is part of the Department of Sociology. The goal of the Centre is to focus on social inequalities generated by and within modern capitalism, but also possible avenues to heighten equality between and within different groups, whether this be in relation to gender, ‘race’, or class.

In line with the ethos of the centre, the conference emphasis will be on, but not limited to, the social injustices and inequalities prevalent in contemporary capitalist society, at the intersection of ‘race’, class, and gender, and what this means in relation to social justice and its attainment. This conference is also a medium through which we hope to highlight the mechanisms through which ‘racial’, class and gender inequalities remain underestimated, and a routine component of people’s everyday lives – whether this is in relation to for instance beauty, work, or social relationships.

Our goal is to develop a forum that will attract “organic intellectuals” within and outside academia for the study and ‘resolution’ of ‘racial’, ethnic, gender, and social class issues and inequalities.
