We invite applications for a post of Postdoctoral Research Associate to participate in an exciting and innovative collaboration with synthetic biologists at Imperial College and its Partners in the SynbiCITE programme which is funded by the EPSRC, the BBSRC and the TSB as an Innovation and Knowledge Centre (IKC).

SynbiCITE is dedicated to promoting the adoption and use of synthetic biology by industry and promoting the industrialisation of synthetic biology research, accelerating the commercialisation of world-class science and the emerging technologies encompassed by synthetic biology into new products, tools, processes and services. SynbiCITE and its partners across the UK and globally are committed to developing this technology through responsible innovation which encompasses ethical, societal and environmental considerations. The role of the research group at King’s is to work with partners to ensure that this technology is developed through responsible innovation (RRI) which encompasses ethical, societal and environmental considerations.

The Postholder will work with Professor Nikolas Rose to develop, implement, review and evaluate the various aspects of RRI within the SynbiCITE partners. The postholder will collaborate with Dr. Claire Marris and the existing team at the Department of Social Science, Health and Medicine at King’s College London, which is carrying out a variety of research projects on social and ethical implications of the synthetic biology, in collaboration with colleagues at Imperial College, London. He or she will also work with other researchers in our Foresight and Responsible Research and Innovation Lab (FRRIL) who are exploring issues of RRI in relation to other technologies, notably neurotechnologies.

The job will be based in the Department of Social Science, Health and Medicine located at the Strand Campus and will require some travel to SynbiCITE partners in the UK.

The appointment will be made, dependent on relevant qualifications and experience, within the Grade 6 scale, currently £32,277 to £33,242 per annum, plus £2,323 London Allowance per annum.
