Mark the dates! SSHM 2014/15 Career Spotlight on… Sessions

We are very pleased to announce that for 2014/15, we are organising “Career Spotlight on… Sessions” in collaboration with KCL Careers & Employability Office.

Calendar:

Thursday November 20, 2014. Spotlight on… Careers in Bioethics:

When: 530-7 pm

Where: Open Space Floor E, East Wing, King’s Building Strand Campus.

Guest speakers:

NatalieBannerDr Natalie Banner, Wellcome Trust Policy Officer and Expert Advisory Group on Data Access (EAGDA) Secretariat. Natalie’s primary role at the Wellcome Trust is to provide the Secretariat for an expert advisory group examining issues concerning data access for the scientific community (EAGDA). While open access to data is extremely valuable for biomedical science and healthcare research, it needs to be balanced with protecting the confidentiality of research participants. Previously Natalie was as a postdoctoral research fellow in the philosophy of psychiatry, working on a research strand entitled “Distress and Disorder” under the umbrella of the Centre for Humanities and Health’s “Boundaries of Illness” programme.

Bettina_webDr Bettina Schmietow, Research Officer at the Nuffield Council on Bioethics. Bettina undertakes research to support the Council’s work and contributes to the drafting of reports. She also monitors developments in areas of interest to the Council. Prior to joining the Secretariat, she completed a PhD in Foundations of Life Sciences and their Ethical consequences on the ownership of human tissue and the governance of biobanks.  The Nuffield Council on Bioethics is an independent body that examines and reports on ethical issues in biology and medicine. It was established by the Trustees of the Nuffield Foundation in 1991, and since 1994 it has been funded jointly by the Foundation, the Wellcome Trust and the Medical Research Council.
